We empower Black people and our allies to become developers of our communities through collective ownership of artistic production, neighborhood real estate and land, businesses, and cultural institutions.

Our 2024 - 2025 Initiatives are:

Acquire 3 - 6 properties, removing them from the speculative market in rapidly gentrifying historically Black neighborhoods, specifically those in Central Brooklyn that are less than 50% Black or in danger of becoming so.
Conduct a feasibility study in preparation for transitioning our portfolio to community stewardship, exploring options such as Community Land Trusts, worker-owned cooperatives, and Community Investment Trusts.
Deliver robust, deep touch popular education through our BlackOUT Curriculum, which uses a history based, trauma-informed approach to financial literacy, solidarity economics, and equity-centered community design to build our community capacity to steward the wealth we create for future generations.

We believe in the power of everyday people to become developers of their communities through SHARED OWNERSHIP of key assets in their neighborhoods.

Education + Knowledge Transfer

The guiding principle of all of our work is to democratize knowledge by expanding the perimeters of EDUCATION inside and outside of institutions to create more informed and empowered global citizens. Our work is intergenerational to ensure that wisdom is passed on between generations.

Travel + Global Citizenship

Brooklyn is a global city with a population that speaks 200 languages and is 40% foreign-born. What we do here creates ripples throughout the world.

Building on the legacies of Black travelers - James, Josephine, Malcolm, Kwame, Martin, Assata, Angela, Ruthie and countless others - we travel, take up space, think globally and act locally... taking a step back for valuable perspective we can use to shape change back at home.

Activism + Civic Engagement

We want policy development to become the norm and not the exception among all levels of society, especially people with direct experience of oppression. Policy needs to be created by those directly affected and not for us.

Art + Media + Design

We actively work towards harnessing the power of ART to imagine, inspire and DESIGN sustainable and equitable change.

Technology + Innovation

We also seek to make EMERGENT TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATION accessible to community members whether in school or out. Technology is more than just novelty but an engine for human development, creativity, and stability.
